The title says it all for this charming and hip cafe with its art laden decor and chalkboard walls filled with artfully displayed menu items and other framed pieces. Coined by former UNLV journalism students and friends, Mae Pineda and Tiffany Stiles, they took their inspiration and love of food and opened up a menu consisting of every waffle dish one can think of. ” When we were in college we thought, whatever we do, we want to inspire and be inspired, so we came up with the name, TIABI”, says Mae. A fitting and creative acronym, this somewhat hidden gem is located off of Maryland Pkwy, conveniently near Las Vegas’ major university, UNLV!
Entering the cafe, it feels a bit homey yet urban with its plush couch, open kitchen and contemporary tunes wafting through the air. The smell of syrup and waffles intoxicate the senses and pleases the palate as the cooks busily flip waffles and churn smoothies. The cashier/hostess efficient while chatting with the customers and shooting the breeze, happily places orders and hands customers order numbers with inspirational quotes artfully attached prompts one to sit down, relax and Be encouraged.
The unique waffle sandwiches and breakfast menu items are truly something to behold. The most popular lunch items here are are the West Coast Wafflewich, loaded with grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, juicey tomatoes and melty cheese. Chicken with TIABI sauce seriously gets your mouth watering in the Waffledilla. While those choices are sure to tickle one’s tastebuds, there is also an offering of vegan fancy, such as the Guru Burger made with its delicious in house guru sauce wrapped in beautiful vegan greens and the the Churronimo, with its vegan waffles tossed with cinnamon and cane sugar. Fill up and get going with the breakfast menu as the Red Velvet Waffle with chocolate chips, chocolate drizzle and whip cream melt in your mouth. A more savory direction is the Hash Tag Belgian Waffle featuring turkey sausage, eggs, and cheese all simmered together.
Top it off with tasty desserts like the Honey I’m Home Churronimo stacked with Vanilla ICe Cream and honey. There is a vegan option as well with vegan ice cream for all the waffles. Bacon Chocolate Sunday is in a league of its own because this is a specialty that hits every single tastebud. Sweet, salty, savory, intelligently topped with chocolate drizzle and caramel sauce. Ahh, I can taste it now.
If waffles sandwiches do not sound appealing, succulent toasty sandwiches are available to fill up on such as the Country Chick served with chicken breasts, arugula, topmatoes and TIABI sauce.
There are two choices of waffles offered at TIABI, vegan and regular. While the food may not fully be organic, it is balanced and healthy served with fruits and veggies that are fresh, juicy and crisp. Toasty Tokyo is similar, yet has Tokyo sauce( it’s a secret) and cheese. For more variety, one can also make any sandwich into a Wafflewich, make any sandwich into a combo, and the Toasty Sandwiches are served with house chips.
Speaking of fresh fruits and vegetables, the smoothies are made fresh and cold served with plump and ripe fruit. The Kale Champ is a sure fire way to get the day rolling as the Banana Peanut Butter with Tofu, soy, banana cinnamon and Madagascar Vanilla is greats after a post workout option.
The Frappuccinnos are seriously the best of anywhere. A perfect blend of sweet and espresso that is crushed into perfection. Pumpkin Pie Bomb is seriously, “da bomb”. It’s tastes like Thanksgiving with its spicy blend of cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. If there is ever a delicious frap, try the Dom’s Coffee Cake. It’s perfect fly a blend of dessert, morning, after a workout, whenever.
