Unless you’ve been hiding under a rug there is a new wave in women’s sports called football. Yes, football (at least American football) has been traditional a male dominated sport where women either watched from the stands or not at all. Now teams powered and played by women all over the country are forming and are taking the field by storm. Unfortunately, millions of football lovers and sport enthusiasts are still in the dark when it comes to this dominating demonstration and display of women’s football.
So here are 7 reasons why you should grab your family and head over to a women’s football game:
It’s just like men’s football, only with women.
Just like men’s football, women’s football has the same regulations, scoring mechanisms and play structure. There are no timeouts because someone broke a nail. The referee doesn’t call a penalty because someone gets hit too hard. No, women’s football is just the same as men football because these women have so much more to prove in order to be on the field.
It’s affordable for the entire family to enjoy.
Because women’s football is relatively unheard of, the support is not as wide. Therefore, a family of four can watch a women’s football game without breaking the bank. “Watching women’s football is better than a movie for the family because there is live entertainment,” says Rich Daniel, General Manager of the D.C. Divas.
Great for the off-season fix.
Again, if you are a sport enthusiast and football lover then watching women’s football will definitely be a fix. No these women don’t wear lingerie but their ability to run plays and capture yardage will make any football lover jump up from their seat in the stands. “Football lovers are able to be engaged in football year round, especially during the off-season if they start supporting and watching women’s football,” adds Scott McCarron, co-owner of the Seattle Majestics.
Women’s football is growing quickly.
Despite millions of Americans not being aware of the women’s football, it is growing quickly. From flag to tackle football women are suiting up and hitting the field for their chance to bring the pain and put points on the scoreboard. “Whenever I tell people that I play football they immediately ask me how can they come see me play and I tell them,” laughs Adrienne Smith running back for the Boston Militia.
There is really excitement in the game.
Watching women attempt to knock their opponents head off is one of the greatest sights many football lovers exclaim. They can’t believe that these women play just has hard as the men and play well. Women’s football is just like men’s football and there’s no crying in football, just hardcore playing. “We play complex offense and defense schemes just like in the NFL and we put in big plays, big hits and big throws,” shares Smith.
They play comparable to NFL players.
Yes, you read that right. Women who play tackle football are often told they play just as good if not better than some of the players in the National Football League today. Smith has been told that her wide receiver abilities are just as good as hall of famed Jerry Rice. “One of our running backs rushed over 2,000 yards for the season, that’s better than most NFL players,” laughs Smith.
Because women’s football needs your support.
Dion Lee, owner of the Las Vegas Showgirlz and owner of Premier 7 Football simply tells everyone that women deserve the right to show what they can do on the field just like the men. He urges everyone to check out one game and make his or her own judgment. “It makes no difference what gender you are, football is football,” says Lee. We need and should get behind women’s football because it’s here to stay. Some teams have been playing for more than 10 years and we have 115 teams in the U.S. alone and three major leagues, so we’re here to stay.”
