The Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal is offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about the traditions, heritage and culture of the Latin American people when they host their annual Latin American Culture Fest on Saturday, November 15.
Latin America Culture Fest An educational, family-friendly event, the Latin American Culture Fest will give visitors the chance to experience the music, dance and arts & crafts of various Latin American countries like Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba and Panama and explore issues that are affecting that region of the world.
Music and dance performances will run the gamut from traditional to contemporary. Among some of performers will be Los Embajadores Peruanos (traditional Peruvian dance group), Que Lindo es Panama (Panamanian traditional dance group), Asi es Colombia (a folkloric dance group) and the MYCincinnati Youth Orchestra (presenting a program for children inspired by El Sistema, Venezuela’s music education program).
The Festival will also feature interactive displays including a visual arts display about the Indigenous Arts from Colombia and Panama where kids can try their hand at beading and creating their own paper mola. Visitors will also be able create a piece of Mexican Tin Art that they can wear.
Be sure to check out a screening of the PBS documentary “Latin Music USA” to learn more about how Latin music has influenced American culture and pay tribute to some notable Latin Americans at the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altar in the Rotunda.
And don’t leave the Festival without a stop at the Salsa Dance Party being held at the Duke Energy Children’s Museum at 4 p.m.
Visitors will be able to browse and shop for goods commonly sold at Latin American markets at the Festival’s Latin American Learning Market Place.
Hours for the Latin American Culture Fest are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free for activities in the Rotunda and dining rooms. For activities taking place at any of the museums, you will need to purchase an All Museum Pass. Cost for the Pass is $14.50 for adults, $13.50 for seniors, $10.50 for children (3-12) and $5.50 for toddlers (1-2). Infants (under 1) are free. General parking is $6 per vehicle.
