Toyota is taking off-road performance up another notch in 2015 as they deliver direct-from-the-factory performance packages from Toyota Racing Development (TRD) on their line of truck-on-frame pickup trucks and SUV’s. These specially developed off-road performance packages will be available on Tundra full-size and Tacoma mid-size pickup trucks along with the 4Runner mid-size SUV in the fall of 2014.
Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has been delivering excitement in professional motorsports racing and retail performance parts for 35 years including accessories, wheels, exhausts, suspension parts, brakes, superchargers, body kits and more.
Popular with performance and serious off-road enthusiasts, these performance accessories have been available from Toyota on an aftermarket basis only. With the introduction of these 2015 TRD Pro series vehicles, enthusiasts can now order their vehicle as a special edition that includes a number of factory installed parts unique to each vehicle plus -when combined with other TRD performance accessories included – make each a seriously bold and aggressive off-road vehicle. All of the new 2015 TRD Pro Series trucks and SUV’s will be offered in a special color suite including an all-new Inferno (orange) along with Black or Super White.
Owners of earlier model year Tundra, Tacoma or 4Runner vehicles will also be able to add a range of these items to their existing off-road vehicle. Toyota has launched a new and expanded TRD accessory website where owners can go to see what is available for their earlier model year Tundra, Tacoma or 4Runner.
Toyota advises that TRD performance parts are available for Tundra ( 2007 through 2015), Tacoma (2005-2015) and 4Runner (2010-2015). The website is live now and there is a tab on the home page that allows owners to enter their vehicle and model year in order to identify which parts are available from TRD for their model year truck or SUV.
All of the new TRD Pro series vehicles will come from the factory with a distinctive unique Toyota front grille that is reminiscent of earlier iconic Toyota models plus TRD Bilstein shocks, tuned front springs, floor mats, shift knobs and black wheels. The front skid plate for each vehicle will have the TRD logo boldly stamped on them.
Tundra will include the TRD branded springs with 2-inch front lift and a decreased spring rate to improve ride on harsh roads, 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin ORP tires, dual exhaust, TRD PRO quarter panel bed stamping, unique interior color seating with red stitching and a special instrument panel ornament insert.
Tacoma will also include the TRD branded springs along with TRD exhaust, 16-inch beadlock-style wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires and a black TRD PRO badge.
The 4Runner will include TRD branded springs with a 1.5-inch front lift, 17-inch TRD alloy wheels, black front and rear lower bumper accents plus black TRD PRO badges.
Toyota debuted these new TRD PRO series vehicles at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show earlier this year. In May, they made them available to select media for first drives. We were fortunate to be able to drive all three over Memorial Day weekend at a ranch near McAllen, Texas.
Our quick read is that these new TRD PRO series vehicles – particularly in the Inferno color – are indeed special and worthy of their Toyota Racing Development heritage.
