The start of the week this season remains action-packed with returning favorites “The Blacklist” on NBC and “Castle” on ABC. Fox and CBS offer up their new programs that may be able to hold their own on the highly competive Monday night.
Scorpion: CBS’ attempt to tackle cybercrime last season failed to compute with as many viewers as the network had hoped. This season, two new shows pick up the task minus the human-machine integration. “Scorpion” follows a team of highly intelligent yet socially challenged hackers who are recruited by the government to help avert disaster when conventional methods fail. It stars Katherine McPhee (Smash), Robert Patrick (Last Resort) and Elyes Gabel (Game of Thrones). “Scorpion” airs Mondays on CBS at 9 p.m.
Gotham: In every reboot of the Batman franchise in the theaters, the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents is always revisited briefly to explain how a young boy grows up to become a masked crusader. But every retelling of the story glosses over the weeks, months and years in between the death of the Waynes and the first appearance of Batman. In Fox’s new series, “Gotham” aims to tell the story of how Batman became the iconic vigilante we know and love but it also explores the other larger than life characters in the Batman universe. In the series premiere we get a glimpse of several of Batman’s most ruthless rivals before they become the villains we love to hate. “Gotham” centers on the young police detective, Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie); the future Gotham police commissioner. It’s a smorgasbord for D.C. Comic fans. “Gotham” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
Also on Monday nights, “The Voice” on NBC, “Castle” on ABC and moving to its new night; “NCIS: Los Angeles” at 10 pm on CBS. Premiering in November NBC’s new political action drama “State of Affairs” starring Katherine Heigl and Alfre Woodard in “State of Affairs” on NBC.
