No, Clevelanders, you are not having double vision problems. There really are lots and lots of lookalikes strolling by in the form of twins and in some cases, triplets and quadruplets at the annual Twins Day Festival being held on Friday, August 1, Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 in Twinsburg, Ohio located just 24 miles southeast of Cleveland. It is approximately a 30 minute drive.
Twins Day Festival The largest annual gathering of twins in the world, the Twins Day Festival expects more than 2500 sets of twins and other multiples to attend and participate in this year’s event. This year’s theme is “Twinstock — Groovy in Twinsburg,” a celebration of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Theme costumes are encouraged but not required for participating twins and multiples.
The first Twins Day Festival took place in 1976 (with only 37 sets of twins in attendance) to honor the city of Twinsburg’s founders who were twins themselves.
One of the highlights of the Festival is the Double Take Parade on Saturday, August 2 at 9 a.m. from the town square down Ravenna Rd. to the Festival site with vehicles, floats and of course, twins and multiples attending.
Other activities at the Twins Day Festival include a Twins Talent Show, a golf tournament (at Gleneagles Golf Course), a corn hole tournament, a 5K Race/Walk and various contests for twins. Weather permitting, there will be a fireworks display on Saturday evening at 9:45 p.m.
Performers providing free entertainment throughout the Festival include Jungle Terry, juggler Aaron Bonk, magician Drew Murray, singer Tony Petra, the Walnut Hill Cloggers and musical groups Northcoast Mix, Steve Moise & Third Stone and Island Vibes (steel drums).
