Twitter has announced on its blog Thursday that it will be rolling out a new feature that will allow users to play third-party streaming service partners audio on their timeline.
Called Twitter Audio Card, the new built-in feature lets musicians and media producers share audio content directly with their fans on the social media site.
Through the feature, fans can listen to podcasts, music and other types of audio content through the streaming platform, which can run uninterrupted as they use their browser and Twitter app and can be minimized when they wish to.
“With a single tap, the Twitter Audio Card lets you discover and listen to audio directly in your timeline on both iOS and Android devices” Twitter said on its blog.
“Throughout your listening experience, you can dock the Audio Card and keep listening as you continue to browse inside the Twitter app,” it added.
Twitter revealed it’s launching the audio card in tandem with partner online audio streaming providers. It noted that its first partner for the audio card is SoundCloud.
Meanwhile, SoundCloud content partners, which include director Kevin Smith, NASA, the White House, NPR, The Washington Post, Pitchfork Media and many more, can broadcast their content directly to fans on Twitter. Twitter noted that one of the first SoundCloud partners that released their new songs on Twitter include David Guetta and Chance the Rapper.
In a separate Fox Business report, it was revealed that Twitter also announced this week that it’s testing a way to remit cash through tweets in France.
“We’re just beginning to test the Audio Card and plan to make it available to more partners and creators in the future so that many more musical artists and creators will be able to share exclusive, in-the-moment audio to millions of listeners on Twitter” Twitter said on its blog.
As fans await the new Twitter audio card, they can still listen to their favorite songs or streaming services on their Twitter Timeline. Audioboom boos and playlists, for instance, stream seamlessly on users’ Twitter timeline. All Twitter users have to do is embed the link in their tweets; they can listen to the boos once they’ve published their tweet.
