“The Crown Jewel” Chase Owens has had a whirlwind month in which he has wrestled in Japan, successfully defending his NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship against the famed NJPW star Bushi, he has wrestled three year reigning NWA Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion and longtime foe Jason Kincaid (who he has traded the NWA Junior title with) and he has had successful tours of Canada. The pinnacle of his career just may be on November 15, 2014 in Elizabethton, TN when he challenges for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship and faces what many would consider his toughest opponent to date, reigning champion “Ironman” Rob Conway.
Conway is no stranger to NWA Smoky Mountain having made numerous appearances in the promotion defending the NWA World Championship against Illuminati member Chris Richards and others and defending the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Jax Dane earlier this summer when the two had the titles.
“The level of talent in NWA Smoky Mountain is top notch,” Conway said. “The roster they have is better than TNA in my opinion. Chase Owens is a star, a great wrestler but I am the NWA World Champion and he will soon find out why.”
Owens is regarded as one of the top talents on the indies and is in the top ten rankings of all of the NWA. At only 24 but having wrestled the majority of his life (his father was a high school wrestling coach) Owens is a natural in the ring with a fluidity of moves that make many wrestlers jealous. Owens, trained by NWA legend Ricky Morton, has established himself as not only a title contender but a true champion having held a number of titles including the NWA World Junior Championship (3 times), NWA Mid-Atlantic Junior Heavyweight Championship, NWA Mountain Empire Championship, NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship, NWA Tennessee Tag Team Championship and is the winner of the coveted NWA Smoky Mountain Cup.
Conway, a two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion is no stranger to titles himself having been NWA World Tag Team Champion with Jax Dane as well as a two time WWE Tag Team Champion and he has also held gold in Ohio Valley Wrestling as both heavyweight and tag team champion there.
A recent trip to Japan saw Owens defeat top ranked Bushi and then he and manager Bruce Tharpe challenged Jushin Thunder Liger who accepted the challenge in the ring at the conclusion of Owens match with Bushi. The two will meet on a future New Japan Pro Wrestling show, possibly at the huge Tokyo Dome show later this year.
“Rob Conway has no idea what is in store for him on November 15,” Owens said. “This is the title everyone wants, this is the title I am going to take, I will be NWA World Heavyweight Champion.”
Former NWA/WCW star Bunkhouse Buck will be in Elizabethton, TN on November 15, 2014 as well taking on “Mr. X-Citement” Jeff Tankersley in a “Bunkhouse Match” which Buck made famous during his time in the Mid-Atlantic.
NWA newcomer Ryan Hunter will return to NWA Smoky Mountain and will challenge the formidable Vince Brent. Hunter squared off against Jax Dane in his last NWA Smoky Mountain appearance and Dane ran through him like he does most opponents.
“Jax Dane is a beast and he got the best of me last time,” Hunter said. “I’m not through with Jax Dane though and Vince Brent is going to pay for what Dane did, at that’s piss me off.”
ECW original EZ Money will be appearing as well as NWA US Tag Team Champions Air America, NWA Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions The Heatseekers, (both teams are in line for a match with current NWA World Tag Team Champions The Killer Elite Squad [Lance Archer/Davey Boy Smith Jr.] who regained the titles in Japan recently) and newly crowned four time NWA Smoky Mountain Television Champion Jeff Connelly.
NWA Smoky Mountain is considered the flagship of the National Wrestling Alliance and their weekly television show is available on YouTube.
