The Division is slated to launch sometime next year and we still have a lot to learn about the upcoming game. With Dark Zones, players will be able to compete against each other, and it sounds like that could be happening on more levels than just the street.
The Division will be featuring PvP in areas that are called Dark Zones, but the PvP experience sounds like it’ll be more than just competitive gaming. Fredrik Rundqvist, who is an executive producer on Tom Clancy’s The Division, spoke with yeahstub.com about Dark Zones and how they will be a game within the game.
“In our fiction, this is the area where the virus hit first, so it’s more devastated, it’s darker, it’s more dangerous than the other parts of New York. Here you’ll be able to play against other players, and this is also where The Division within The Division will play out,” Rundqvist said.
We asked Massive to elaborate further on what “The Division within The Division” meant, but they wouldn’t divulge any further details. We believe they are referring to the game’s PvP as well as how Division agents will be able to meet others inside of a Dark Zone. Perhaps different game modes will be within the Dark Zone as well?
During the reveal of The Division at E3 2013, we were shown off the burrough of Brooklyn, New York, and this past June at E3, we were shown a new burrough, Manhattan. What other locations will be included in The Division is unknown at this time, but Rundqvist further described some things players will be able to do in the burroughs.
“The big thing for us was last year we had a demo that took place in Brooklyn and this year’s was in Manhattan. [Players] will be able to explore the underground system of New York, and obviously the street level. You can go into buildings and you can go onto rooftops. All of these amazing vistas and all of these amazing points of interest in New York City, it’s there for you to play,” Rundqvist said.
The Division will have street level, underground, rooftop and indoor combat. All of these different environments are sure to provide a wide range of gameplay experiences for players, and could potentially yield some interesting multiplayer modes, should those be in the game to begin with.
Ubisoft’s The Division is one of the most anticipated games the firm has upcoming in 2015. It will be just the third PS4, Xbox One and PC only game the company has released, provided none debut prior to then, which is unlikely.
