Las Vegas is known as a mecca for gaming, fine dining and spectacular shows but Las Vegas also has some unique attractions and one of the newest is The High Roller observation wheel and The Linq, the pedestrian outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment district that lead to the the High Roller.
The High Roller Opened on March 31 of this year, the High Roller is the world’s tallest observation wheel (550 feet tall and 520 feet in diameter). It is comprised of 28 fully enclosed air conditioned cabins (each with 300 square feet of floor to ceiling glass) that can hold up to 40 people apiece. Each cabin is also equipped with 8 monitor screens which provide an audio commentary, information and music. A ride on the High Roller takes approximately 30 minutes to make an entire revolution and gives visitors a spectacular view of the surrounding Strip, the downtown area, the mountains and desert.
Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) may be purchased at the waiting room bar near the ticket purchasing area and the beverages can be taken on the High Roller for you to enjoy during your ride.
An Interesting Fact: The High Roller never stops moving. Visitors are able to board and depart the observation wheel while it moves at a slow speed of one foot per second.
The High Roller offers both daytime (11:30 a.m. – 6:50 p.m.) rides and nighttime (7 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.) rides daily.Currently, the cost for a daytime ride is $24.95 per person and the cost for a nighttime ride is $34.95 per person.
After your ride, be sure to check out the Linq dining, shopping and entertainment area that includes 12 restaurants, 8 bars, 14 shops and two entertainment venues including the Brooklyn Bowl, an 80,000 square foot complex that has 32 bowling lanes and a huge music venue.
Among some of the restaurants at the Linq are the Chayo Mexican Kitchen,Yard House, F.A.M.E., Hash House a Go Go and celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar. I personally recommend the gourmet pizzas at Flour & Barley. You can also find a Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop and the ever present, Starbucks.
