Actor/Comedian Tracy Morgan is getting around in a wheelchair, but “struggling” during his recovery following a car crash , attorney Benedict P. Morelli says. Morelli told ‘People’ magazine his client is having a hard time recuperating following a car crash. The ’30 Rock’ star, 45, suffered injuries including broken ribs, a broken nose and a broken leg in a June 7 accident when the limo bus he was a passenger in collided on the New Jersey Turnpike with a Wal-Mart truck driven by Kevin Roper. It may be months before the former ‘Saturday Night Live’ comic can use a walker.
Morgan is improving at a gradual pace with out-patient rehabilitation treatments.
“He’s making incremental progress,” Morelli told People, “But they’ll have to wait another month before they assess him cognitively.”
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) the tractor trailer rear-ended the limo at 20 miles over the speed limit. A preliminary report form the NTSB also noted the driver was nearly at his drive limit.
Unfortunately, Morgan’s friend and fellow comedian James McNair was killed in the crash. Two other men, Ardley Fuqua and Morgan’s personal assistant Jeffrey Millea and a woman, Millea’s wife, Krista are named in the lawsuit Morgan’s legal team filed against the retail giant.
In a statement Wal-Mart said it would cooperate fully and “do the right thing for all involved.”
Roper was charged with assault by auto and vehicular homicide.
