Equestrian fans across the Wasatch front will want to take note of these fun and interesting events coming up later this month;
Horse lovers are often dog lovers, and we have to give a shout out to the annual Strut Your Mutt walk, held again this year at Salt Lake’s Liberty Park. Check out the event’s website or look at other local dog rescue groups, such as CAWS, to learn more. Registration closes at noon on Friday if you’re not already signed up to strut. Check in on Saturday opens at 8 and the walk commences at 10 am. Hope to see you there!
For barrel racers near the greater Salt Lake area, UTBRA (Utah Barrel Racing Association) will hold a Saturday morning race, beginning at 10 am, on the 13th as well. Saturday’s race will be held at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park. They also have an evening race on Thursday September 18 at the Butterfield arena in Herriman. This race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. Visit the user friendly UTBRA website to learn more!
Way out west in Tooele, Breez’n Barrels will host their first fund raising event on Saturday, September 13. To be held from noon until 3 pm at the Bit n’ Spur arena, there will be vendors, treats, pony rides and assorted activities for kids of all ages. Head north to the Legacy Event Center in Farmington, UT to enjoy the cutting event on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20. The competition will feature many of our area’s accomplished cutters and their well-bred, well-schooled cutting horses. Take a look at the Legacy Event Center website for times, directions and additional details about the show. There is no fee for those wishing just to watch. Parking is easy and plentiful on site, at either the north or south end parking lots. Inside you’ll find ample seating and one of the best concession stands around.
On Friday, September 26, the Utah Dressage Society will host an educational clinic about bits and bitting. The Q & A seminar takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the Sandy City Bicentennial Park’s Indoor Pavilion. Address: 530 E 8680 S. The cost is $5 if paid in advance, or $10 at the door. The following day, Saturday, September 27, a Bit Fitting Session will take place at Rose Ranch Stables. Located at 11162 S. Redwood Road, South Jordan, this friendly stable will welcome those who wish to bring their horse for an expert bit fitting experience (cost is $15 for participant) or you may attend as an auditor (no fee for those who are just watching). To sign up for a fitting, contact Lara Oles at 307-727-6055. Payment and scheduling must be attended to prior to the day of the clinic. Eventers will gather on Saturday, September 27, at the pastoral site of Lynnleigh Farms in Sandy, Utah (located just off of State Street near 10700 South). The schedule 2-phase event has an entry fee of $50, which includes the grounds fee plus both the dressage and jumping classes. The lowest jumps at this show will be the grasshopper’s cross rail (no trot poles). From 10600 S, turn onto State Street (going South). Look for the large white mailbox on the east side of the road near 10700 South. Turn into the long driveway; please be sure to close the gate behind you as your drive through! Watch for horses and riders as you locate a parking space. There is no fee for spectators.
