Sunday, June 22, 2014, the infamous Vans Warped Tour was not only just barely starting their 20th anniversary season but for the Ventura, California specific date , concert goers were surprised with a performance by Linkin Park.
While band schedules aren’t announced until the morning of the show date at said location, sometimes, almost rarely, a surprise guest act gets announced on the board as well, to which the extraordinarily beautiful beachside Ventura County Seaside Park, were the lucky recipients. What also makes the show more special, is that the location is the second of two Los Angeles vicinity shows (first one having been Pomona on Friday, June 20th) and that the Ventura location is a significantly smaller venue space.
Linkin Park played promptly at 5:25 pm in a middle stage specially set up for them and was conveniently located between the two main stages to which nearly the entire venue of fans came and packed that one area up (not everyone can be a LP fan, as well as, there were still other bands that were performing that needed support). Fans and curious people were all finding a way to watch them perform, from girls getting onto guys shoulders to some staff and crew people as well as other fans [who couldn’t climb shoulders] found places to perch up wether on generators, merch tables or anything else in sight. All eyes and cameras were up facing the large white LP banner.
Linkin Park is getting set to tour with Thirty Seconds to Mars (featuring Jared Leto) and AFI, which is being named the ‘Carnivores Tour.’ All bands are also in promotion of releasing their latest albums which more information is available on their websites and Facebook pages..
The Vans Warped Tour is currently celebrating their 20th anniversary since Kevin Lyman first created it in 1994 to bring punk bands and skate shows together under one roof to which it has expanded to a huge diversity of band types where many of them have become mega stars, from Blink 182, Beck, Deftones, No Doubt, Avenged Sevenfold, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, NOFX, Pennywise and several other major acts.
This year’s line up consisted of several bands that have “grown up” with the Warped Tour, some have been asked to return from last year and of course several new hitters. Approximately 100 bands come to perform over 10 stages, an acoustic room and a few other mock up spots for experimental acts. Notable acts include Bowling for Soup, ACIDIC, Anberlin, Attila, Bayside, Beebs and Her Moneymakers, Emilie Autumn, Finch, Falling in Reverse, Ice Nine Kills, Icon for Hire, Less Than Jake, and The Devil Wears Prada, and several others.
Photos of most of these acts can be found in the gallery.
Some acts included special guests, such as Breathe Carolina who had Danny Worsnop from Asking Alexandria and We Are Harlot. Other notable musicians were found roaming around such as Craig Owens, singer of Chiodos, who was found there supporting the winners at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands Stage.
Sponsors of note include, Vans Off the Wall, Kia Motora America, Journeys clothing, Epitaph Records, Ernie Ball String, Fearless Records, Monster Energy Drink, Hard Rock Cafe, Matador Jerky, MusiCares, Orange Amps, Sumerican Records, Warheads candy, TRUTH truck, Victory Records, and more. The full listing is available on the Vans Warped Tour Website.
While the fans had a fun filled day of music and friends, they all seem to have left the day happy and fulfilled, some are to be found on more upcoming dates, those are the brave ones, which upcoming cities and tickets are listed and available on the Vans Warped Tour website.
