Rising Star is in full swing for the season on ABC. Rapper Ludacris is one of the experts helping the show find its the next rising star.
The show reinvents the traditional singing competition as–for the first time ever–the audience has the final say in real time. The show follows a group of aspiring singers as they audition in live performances. During the performances, viewers vote via an App in real time to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on, and the performer can see how the voting is going during the performance, so the feedback is immediate. After three weeks of contestants who earned more than 70% of the vote move on to the 3 week duals round where they competing against another constestant with the person with the highest score advancing to the next round.
Building on its lead-in at 9:00 p.m., the show earned 2nd place in its hour with Total Viewers (3.5 million) this past week. Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W25-54), while ranking as the No. 1 broadcast with Kids 2-11. “Rising Star” improved its slot over original programming on the same night last year by 17% in viewers (3.0 million for “Whodunnit?” on 7/28/13).
