Boyz II Men celebrated the debut of their album, “Collide”, with an exclusive concert at The Americana at Brand in Glendale, California.
The 4 time Grammy award-winning group took the stage on Monday, October 20 on the property’s outdoor stage and performed a free 50 minute set for fans. “Collide” is released on Tuesday, October 21, and is the band’s first collaboration since 2011’s “Twenty”.
The group which consists of Nathan Morris, Wayna Morris and Shawn Stockman performed all their greatest hits including “I’ll Make Love to You”, “On Bended Knee,” “End of the Road” and “Motownphilly”. They also performed new songs from “Collide” and for the first time played instruments and did a medley of rock songs by Tom Petty, The Guess Who and Nirvana. Wayna Morris told the crowd that “six months ago Nate and Shawn could not play instruments” and here they were playing bass and guitar and rocking out to songs you would never expect the band to be performing.
The group knows how to entertain a crowd. Their vocal harmonizing were spot on and they had the crowd screaming, laughing, singing and dancing to the entire set. Backed by a 4 piece band, the group introduced each other and complimented each on their talents and what it meant to them in the group. They passed out roses to the crowd during “I’ll Make Love To You” and never missed a beat as the crowd went into a frenzy trying to catch the roses from the guys.
Boyz II Men’s first single from the new release is “Losing Sleep” which is already climbing the charts. The album will feature a different sound and genres for the band who is celebrating 23 years in the business.
The group has been performing shows and toured in 2013 with New Kids On The Block and 98 Degrees on “The Package Tour”. They kicked off a residency at The Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas in March 2013 and the residency has already been extended into 2015.
Boyz II Men are the biggest selling R&B group of all time and will spend the rest of the year performing dates in the states, Europe and will close out the year with more dates from their residency in Las Vegas.
The group were on hand before the show. I spoke with Shawn Stockman about the new album “Collide”, plans for the band and the TV show “The Sing Off” where he is returning as a judge this season and more. Click on the video link below to see what he had to say.
