High pressure over the eastern Great Lakes today will provide for excellent weather to kick off the Labor Day weekend, however an area of low pressure in the central Plains will bring a hazy, hot, humid, and stormy weather pattern to New Jersey by Sunday.
Today on through tomorrow, high pressure will drift over northern New Jersey and towards New England leading to clear skies to scattered cloud cover. Winds will remain light and variable through tomorrow morning before developing out of the south by tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid to upper 70’s throughout the state. Tonight, temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 50’s over northwestern New Jersey and lower to mid 60’s along the coast. Tomorrow, temperatures will rise into the upper 70’s to lower 80’s along the coast and lower to mid 80’s over the Delaware River Valley.
Tomorrow night, a warm front will approach the region as high pressure exits to the east leading to increasing clouds throughout New Jersey with the potential for some fog by Sunday morning. Winds will be from the south and southeast at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 60’s for lows throughout New Jersey.
The warm front will charge through New Jersey on Sunday afternoon with scattered to overcast clouds along with widely scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms. The thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 60 mph, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80’s for highs.
The cold front will follow on Monday, Labor Day, with scattered showers and strong to severe thunderstorms. The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 60 mph, hail, frequent lightning, and very heavy downpours. Temperatures will be well above normal with lows in the upper 60’s to lower 70’s and highs in the upper 80’s to lower 90’s.
Muggy conditions will linger on Tuesday through Thursday as a tropical air mass remains over New Jersey. Tuesday will feature scattered cloud cover throughout the state followed by the threat for thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon. Scattered clouds to clear skies can be expected on Tuesday. Fog will be a threat each morning. Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will range from the upper 60’s to lower 70’s for lows and mid to upper 80’s for highs. Temperatures on Thursday will range from the mid to upper 60’s for lows and mid to upper 80’s for highs.
