Halloween is upon us, so like how Halloween is to many of us, it’s a time to watch some freaky movies. Some of the most popular horror movies have some of our favorite stars now, like Johnny Depp, one of his first film roles was in “Nightmare on Elm Street,” or like even Brooke Shields, when she was young had a role in the cult horror film, “Alice Sweet Alice.” You also have Jamie Lee Curtis, who was a screen queen in her younger days, and the list goes on.
Many well known stars got their start in horror and some even decide to stay in the genre. The horror genre is probably one of the most popular genres, especially with young adults. So this list is going to look at some of those stars, who’ve played in horror movies that you could have forgotten. Some of these stars later in their career did go back to the horror genre, but you may have forgotten that they started in the genre too!
So that being said, let’s start this list! Also feel free to share other stars that have been in horror movies!
The name Henry Cavill is now synonymous with Superman, before fans knew him from BBC hit show, “The Tudors.” Cavill was in the horror film, “Blood Creek,” but looking deeper in his career, let’s say four years earlier in 2005, he was in “Hellraiser: Hellworld.” He played Mike in the movie. So in his career, the Superman star graced the screen in one of the many “Hellraiser” movies.
Charlize Theron is known for many roles, but did you know that her film debut was a horror film? It’s part of a franchise too, “Children of the Corn,” to be exact. Theron starred in the 3rd movie of the series, “Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest.” The film was released in 1995, and Theron’s character was known as the young woman, or “Eli’s Follower.” So it wasn’t a major role, but she was in it!
I’m not talking about “Play Misty For Me,” more like talking about his role in the 1955 film “Revenge of the Creature.” Yes, this is part of the “Creature from the Black Lagoon” series. It’s known as Eastwood’s first screen role, which he plays a minor role, a lab technician.
Everyone knows Tom Hanks, but for those who don’t know, his screen debut was actually a slasher movie! The slasher, “He Knows You’re Alone” was released in 1980. Hanks played a character known as Elliot. The movie is actually pretty decent. It’s not a slasher movie to watch before your wedding though.
Hilary Swank is no stranger to acting when she was a young adult, even before “The Next Karate Kid,” in 1994, the actress was in a movie. That movie is the cult classic that lead to a cult classic TV show, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Released in 1992, Swank played Buffy’s friend, Kimberly, in the horror comedy. Since then she has starred in award-winning movies to other horror movies, notably “The Reaping.”
