In the next lesson of Pastor David Jeremiah’s “What In The World Is Going On?” Series, we pursue the modern revival of the ancient Roman Empire with our tour guide—the Prophet Daniel (Jeremiah, 2008). The key verses of Scripture for this quest can be found in Daniel 2:31 – 45 and remind us that a day is coming, sooner than later, where a “revived one-world empire” will set the stage for the Man of Lawlessness…The Antichrist (Jeremiah, 2008)! Daniel’s specific prophecy regarding these future, End-Time events center around two dreams that King Nebuchadnezzar had 2,500 years ago. This lesson covers the interpretation of the first dream regarding King Nebuchadnezzar’s giant statue with five distinctive sections. For more about the king’s first (and second) dreams, please view this 45-minute YouTube video that does a good job detailing the history behind related Scripture on the matter: http://youtu.be/hP75caJJEq4.
The first section was the head of gold and marked the first kingdom, which was King Nebuchadnezzar’s, began in 606 B.C. and lasted 70 years, and known as the Babylonian Kingdom, or Golden Kingdom, for its vast wealth of the precious metal gold; next was the Silver Kingdom, or Persian Empire, that was “inferior” to King Nebuchadnezzar’s Golden Empire yet given into the hands of the Medes and Persians due to Belshazzar’s mocking of the God of Israel; then there was the Bronze Kingdom, or the Greek Empire, from which Alexander the Great hailed and ruled all over the earth until his untimely death at the young age of 33; then the 4th kingdom eventually conquered Greece and became the most ruthless kingdom in history—The Roman Empire or the Iron Kingdom, which encompassed the birth and ministry of Christ as well as the Church (Jeremiah, 2008). It is the last kingdom, the mixture of iron and clay, that is yet to come and represents the revived Roman Empire, as evident in the great statue’s ten toes and feet. History, and tradition alike, has it that the old Roman Empire was never really conquered by anyone but rather “imploded from within.” Perhaps poor leadership, a corrupt culture, and sexual deviance were responsible for the dissolution of the once greatest kingdom on earth.
So, the real question is, “what does all this mean spiritually and for us today?” Consider this: Since the days of the original Roman Empire, there has not been one ruling power in the Western world, other than Rome (Jeremiah, 2008). Many megalomaniacs, such as Hitler, Mussolini, and others, have tried to rule the world but fell short. However, the Bible makes it clear that there is coming a man whom the earth will look to as a one-world leader (from the revived Roman Empire) who will promise to deliver mankind from the judgments of God and will be known as the “prince who is to come” or the Antichrist (Daniel 9:26 – 27, NKJV). I agree with a number of wise theologians and scholars that say, in these last days, the best time to come to know Jesus Christ and avoid the coming devastation of the Antichrist is now, while it is still called today (2 Corinthians 6:2, NKJV). Have you done that yet? I am praying that you delay no longer. Until then, stay tuned for the next lesson on our journey together with Pastor Jeremiah in the “What in the World is Going On?
