Since 2010 I’ve been writing articles for the Examiner as their LA Cultural Examiner “Brining You The Good News” and shining the light on people that deserve recognition for the good they’re doing in the world! Some people like dressing up as super heroes, while others are out there being & living the life of what real heroes are made of! I’ve been following the journey of a real super heroine via the internet. Her positivity & the way she utilizes her heart & her talents to helping people while bringing awareness to many Causes is truly inspiring beyond words! Today I would like to shine the light on Laniea Dominguez & Comedy For Causes:
How long have you been doing comedy? 4 years
What inspired you to want to be a stand up comedian? It was a dare but then I was addicted
Who are your biggest influences? Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, Jodi Miller
Where are you from? Idaho
Did you move to Los Angeles to pursue comedy? No! I never in my wildest dreams thought of doing something so brave, bold, and crazy! lol
Tell us about Comedy For Causes? Comedy For Causes produces shows to help raise money and awareness for nonprofit organizations and those in need. Its also a great way for the individuals, families & friends to escape the struggle for at least 90 minutes
When did you start it & What inspired you to do Comedy For Causes? In 2011, my church was talking about how low the funds were and that they may have to let go of some of the staff members. My first thought was a Comedy Night Fundraiser at my church for my church. The success was so great, I knew God wanted me to use this gift to give back. Giving back has been my focus every since.
What causes do you focus on? I am honored to help all good causes. Individuals fighting cancer seem to come my way a lot, generally through friend or family member of theirs. Those are always such rewarding causes.
How do you select your causes? It varies. Many come my way because they were at a previous show and wanted to do the same for a friend or family member.
You’re juggling Comedy For Causes, your job, your family & comedy shows? Yes I do
What is your biggest challenge in doing it all? Fatigue sometimes come into play, but the hardest part is making sure I’m not neglecting my 11 year old daughter.
What is your favorite Comedy For Causes moment? Gosh! That’s tough. The second cancer benefit I did which was for Maria Anderson. She got on stage after to thank us and started crying. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room! Well, except for her glass eye which she will gladly pop out for you ;)
What is your ultimate goal with your comedy & Comedy For Causes? To buy a tour bus that all comics can sleep on, then go on tour doing shows to give back!
Any upcoming events: Comedy For Causes? or other Comedy Shows? Yes!
10/25 for a girls High School Volley Ball Team,
11/02 to help build an orphanage in Kenya,
11/05 A “Comedy for Causes Gives back” show! Free admission to say thank you for your support!
11/06 for Casa Colina Hospital’s Childrens Services,
11/09 for an orphanage in Ethopia
11/05 for Rinda Cole who is battling cancer.
Anything else you’d like to add? I just want to say how grateful I am to all of the comics who have performed on my shows. If it weren’t for them, there would be no shows. The made my shows a success!
