After finishing second and leading the most laps in the Subway Firecracker 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Friday night, Regan Smith retook the Nationwide championship points lead that he lost to Elliott Sadler a week earlier at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. Smith is back on top with a 12-point lead on Sadler, who dropped to second after finishing 21st at Daytona.
Smith had dropped to third after the Kentucky race, with JR Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott taking the second spot. But Elliott had trouble in the late laps at Daytona and wound up finishing the race in the 20th spot. As a result, he dropped to third, 15 points behind Smith and three behind second-place Sadler.
