Christian clergy leaders need help, at times, just like any other follower of Christ. A fairly new retreat center in Colton’s Point, Maryland is very pro-active in providing counseling retreats to this population. Dr. Pensacola H. Jefferson, the Director of clergy care and counseling at Nekadesh Farm, co-owns this private retreat.
Dr Jefferson says, according to statistics, Pastors, Bishops. and Ministers are quitting the ministry by the hundreds each month because of fatigue, burnout, depression, church conflicts, personal conflicts, marriage or family troubles, or failure to live righteous. Often their physical or personal needs are overlooked and neglected due to the high demand for their ministerial services and pressure from their personal lives.
Most Christian clergy do not regularly participate in private biblical studies (accept to prepare for a sermon or other church program) – and therefore, fail to continue to deepen their own spiritual growth for lack of time or effort.
Spiritual leaders are only human, and like everyone else need to get away from the pressures and stresses of ministry and everyday life on occasion. Mark Rutland, the president of Oral Roberts University made the statement, that when he was going through a difficult time he wished there had been a place for him to get counseling.
Bishop T. D. Jakes appeared as a guest on the Larry King show. He voiced his own concerns regarding the need for ministers to have a place to go for help and counseling. Jakes commented that, “One of the things that really breaks my heart is that the church has not done more to provide a place for pastors to be restored and be renewed. It would be like being a physician and not being able to go to the hospital.”
And Bishop Jakes also said, what “… we need, Larry, in this country is a way for pastors to be able to get out from under the fire and get some help. Get out of the pulpit when they need to and get restored, get counseling, get help when they need it.”
Nazareth Ministries at Nekadesh Farm Retreat Center has been working with Christian leaders for several years. They have made significant contributions in helping Christian clergy leaders struggling through personal issues and concerns in varies areas of life. It provides these leaders with the opportunity to take care of their emotional, spiritual, and physical needs by taking time to care for themselves.
Nazareth Ministries offers a rare opportunity for Christian leaders to be privately and personally encouraged through confidential retreat counseling. According to Dr. Jefferson Nazareth Ministries has been an answer to prayer by working with spiritual leaders and helping them to find rest and counseling in an environment of anonymity, free of the harsh judgment and criticism that is often found among the laity and others in the Christian community.
Christian clergy and leaders can enjoy a retreat-like setting as they rest, receive counseling, or reflect on their own lives. Nazareth Ministries has spent over 14 years working with the Christian clergy and leadership community by offering practical, professional, and spiritual service and counseling coupled with retreat-like setting at Nekadesh Farm Retreat Center in Colton’s Point, Maryland.
If you are a part of the Christian clergy and leadership community and have been looking for a private place to work on your personal issues and concerns, Nekadesh Farm Retreat Center may be the place for you.
Christian clergy and leaders often put the needs of others above their own and forget that God loves them too. On a plane, the flight attendant always tells people with children or the elderly to put their mask on first. The philosophy behind that is that you can’t help someone until you first help yourself.
Nazareth Ministries recognizes the need for Christian clergy and leaders to take care of themselves first by taking time to deal with their own personal issues and concerns. Without personal care there is always the danger of spiritual atrophy of the relationship with God through Christ and Christ-like living.
It is a delight to know there is a place for Christian clergy and leaders to go for self-care as well as personal and spiritual growth. Nazareth Ministries at Nekadesh Farm Retreat Center is the place to retreat.
