According to a June 29 report from The Independent, Rusev is set to put his undefeated streak on the line against Big E during the WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view this weekend in Boston. Will Rusev continue his winning ways, or can Big E earn the victory for the United States? That’s one of the key questions heading into the event, and there’s no way of knowing the answer in advance of the show.
Big E, 28, a one-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and former NXT Champion, is a fan favorite. There’s no doubt about that. However, Rusev has been getting a major push as the WWE’s top villain, and he’ll be tough to beat. Since he has been effective in generating real heat with the fans, the WWE has been rewarding him by scripting him to win in devastating fashion, week after week on WWE Monday Night Raw.
In past weeks, Rusev, along with his valet Lana, made quick work of jobbers such as Zack Ryder and Sin Cara. However, Big E represents his toughest challenge to date. The WWE has been pushing the feud of Big E vs. Rusev by working the Russia vs. USA angle. Rusev comes out to the ring waving the Russian flag, while Big E walks out with the flag of the United States. It has been an effective strategy to get fans on Big E’s side.
In all likelihood, Rusev will get the victory over Big E at WWE Money in the Bank. The WWE wants to keep building him as the top heel in the promotion, besides Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton. If Rusev’s popularity continues to grow, he’ll keep getting main card bouts on WWE pay-per-views. The sky’s the limit for Rusev.
Elsewhere on the WWE Money in the Bank card, The Usos put their tag-team championship on the line against Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of The Wyatt Family. Since Bray Wyatt is now basically a singles star, Rowan and Harper have been getting their own little push as a tag-team. Also on the bill, Paige takes on Naomi in a WWE Divas championship bout. In other matters, there will be two WWE ladder matches.
WWE Money in the Bank goes live at 8 p.m. on the WWE Network, and also on pay-per-view. The event, which features dozens of high-level WWE superstars such as John Cena, Seth Rollins and Summer Rae, goes down at TD Garden in Boston. There will also be a short pre-show on the WWE Network, 30 minutes prior to the pay-per-view.
