It’s been over a year since Winder Farms started offering service to Orange County residents and they are still going strong. With so many local farms and food artisans around, it’s not difficult for them to source the best food for you and your family.
Here’s a sample of what you can order from Winder Farms:
- Fresh, local fruits and vegetables: peppers, carrots, chicory, avocados, oranges, stone fruit, peaches, celery, juices, pre-packaged salads, and pre-cut fruit combinations
- Vegetarian based items like coconut milk
- All-natural drinks like iced tea
- Local dairy products like yogurt
- Locally farmed meats: steaks, bacon
- Grocery favorites: frozen entrees, pastas
- Bakery items: fresh bread, cookies and more!
Fruits and vegetables are farm fresh. Don’t be alarmed by irregular shapes or soil deposits. It is just part of nature and exactly what you will see at a farmers market. The shape has nothing to do with flavor and tastes just as good or sometimes better than that perfectly formed apple you purchase at the store. Vegetables may have soil still on them, but you can tell its fresh from the farm. Wash leafy vegetables like chicory in the sink then spin them in a vegetable dryer and they are vibrant and ready to eat. Root vegetables like carrots just need a quick scrub and they are ready to be cooked. I used some of the chicory in my juicing. I had to use it sparingly as it has a very strong flavor. I also sliced up the shishito peppers and tossed them in salad. The stone fruit and peaches were plump, juicy, and sweet. Taylor Farms makes a Kale Chopped Salad with Brussels Sprouts. All you do is put everything in a bowl and toss. It was wonderfully refreshing and a tad sweet from the dressing – so easy and tasted great! Del Monte’s Four Fruit Blend made a healthy medley of fruit to divvy up for lunches. Winder Farms Lemonade, Apple Juice, and Apple Cranberry Juice are refreshing and just the right size for home or work.
Local dairy products are provided by local dairy farms in each delivery area. But you can also find national dairy products like the grocery store. Winder Farms carries Stonyfield Yogurt Smoothies in a variety of flavors. You can drink them as a quick boost or use them as a creamy base for juicing.
Winder Farms meats come frozen and are locally sourced in Utah, where Winder Farms is based. I love their Honey Cured Bacon. It is thick sliced and great for breakfast or chopping/frying up as bacon bits. I used the bacon bits to add a salt balance to the sweet chili chicken.
Frozen grocery favorites like pasta, Florentyna’s out of Lakewood, CA, makes a variety of pastas. Their Red, White and Green Striped Raviolis are fantastic. I like to mix up textures so instead of boiling them, I deep-fry them to crisp up the outside pasta while keeping the ricotta creamy inside. I call it an “Italian wonton” and served it with some marinara for dipping.
Winder Farms also has fresh bakery items such as bread and cookies. The Honey Whole Wheat Bread is wonderful for toast in the morning or making delicious PB&J sandwiches for the lunchbox.
Winder Farms is taking grocery shopping to a new level of service! Give them a try.
