New wines pay tribute those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Never has there been a more apposite time to honour those who fight for our country, after the events of this week. But Diamond Estates Winery was well ahead and recently released two new wines to commemorate and support the families of our troops, the 1914 Honour and 1914 Valour.
“These wines recognize and celebrate the achievements of the generations who served and continue to serve in Canada’s military”, stated Murray Souter, President & CEO of Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd.
1914 Honour and 1914 Valour wines salute the 100th anniversary of the First World War, as well as the 150th Anniversary of Confederation, which contributed to Canada achieving nationhood and recognized as an equal amongst the leading nations of the world. The wines are positioned to support the efforts of the Federal Government, Provincial Governments, Canadian Museum Association and Royal Canadian Legion in honouring these events that continue to generate awareness about Canadian history.
Diamond Estates is donating 50¢ from the sales of every bottle of 1914 Honour and 1914 Valour to the True Patriot Love Foundation, with the aim of raising $50,000 with this project.
Crafted in Niagara on the Lake at Diamond Estates’ winery, these two new wines are created to be approachable and enjoyed at any occasion:
1914 Honour – this white wine is a blend of Riesling 40%, Gewurztraminer 40% and Chardonnay 20%. It has a lovely nose of Asian pear and green apple, followed by mouth-watering flavours of grapefruit, honey and apple. We sipped it with appetizers of guacamole and crispy baked kale chips and it was perfect with both.
The red wine, 1914 Valour is a blend of Merlot 50%, Syrah 30% and Gamay 20%. It is a medium-bodied wine with hints of cherry and black pepper on the nose, and dark red berry fruits and vanilla spice on the palate. It would be ideal with a plate of charcuterie.
Tom Green, V.P. Winemaking at Diamond Estates adds, “Honour is a refreshingly crisp white wine and Valour is a bold and mouth filling red. Either wine can be enjoyed on their own or with food.”
True Patriot Love honours the sacrifices of members of the Canadian Forces, Veterans and their families in both time of peace and conflict by:
• Funding programs in mental health, physical rehabilitation, family supports and veteran transition that address the unique challenges related to the impact of service
• Funding research and discovering solutions to systemic challenges that military families face by facilitating national discussions
• Changing the conversation about our veterans by demonstrating that veterans are just as capable of contributing to our country out of uniform, even if they suffered injuries.
With Remembrance Day coming up soon, now we have a new way to commemorate those who serve.
