Al-Anabi Racing team manager Alan Johnson and his crews must have a special notebook for Norwalk, Ohio’s Summit Motorsports Park: one with all the winning combinations.
Al-Anabi Racing has won four of the last five Top Fuel Wallys at Summit Motorsports Park, home of this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, including last year’s race with Khalid alBalooshi behind the wheel of the Al-Anabi Gold dragster. Prior to last season, Larry Dixon took two straight (2009 and 2010) and Del Worsham won in 2011.
“The Al-Anabi team has had a lot of success at Norwalk, and we really couldn’t be going back there at a better time,” said Shawn Langdon, driver of the Al-Anabi Silver dragster and reigning NHRA Top Fuel champ. “We have tons of great Norwalk data, and we can definitely use that information for both of Al-Anabi cars. Hopefully the first couple of runs go well, and things fall our way. If the car responds quickly to the changes we’ve made, I don’t see any reason why the Al-Anabi team can’t repeat as Norwalk champions.”
Langdon got off to a slow start this season, but found his way to victory lane in Bristol last month. The win has helped him climb to third in points.
“We have all of the ducks; now we just have to get all our ducks in a row,” said Langdon. “We’ve been addressing problems with some things we’ve been doing at the last couple of races. We’re kind of fixing one problem after another because when we fix one thing, it affects something else so then we move on to that one because it’s all related We really think we’ve gotten to the base of it now. “
alBalooshi got off to a strong start this season, winning the NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, but has since made just one final round appearance. He currently sits eighth in Top Fuel points.
“I am very excited to back to Norwalk this week,” said alBalooshi. “From last year when I won the race there, I have been thinking about when I go back there. I think it will feel good to get back to Norwalk because I know I have done this before. I will not have any thoughts about not being able to win there because I won there last year, and that will give me an advantage. Norwalk is also a very good race track for our team so that is good, too.”
Qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals begins Friday, July 4th at 4:45 and 7:15 p.m. ET, continuing Saturday, July 5th at 4:45 and 7:15 p.m. ET. Final elimination rounds kick off Sunday, July 6th at 11 a.m. ET. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
