Though the Avengers will be up against Ultron in next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, that is not to say that Marvel Studios is not looking ahead in the future. While the film following Age of Ultron will be Ant-Man, the movie that many will be waiting to see is Captain America 3. Since this year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, moviegoers anticipate what is next for the First Avenger as his next solo will not be released until May of 2016. While there is plenty of time between now and the movie’s release, you can expect that any information on the film is good information. So far there has been no word on the story or the cast, but there is someone you can expect to see again; and that is Bucky Barnes or better know as The Winter Soldier.
While Sebastian Stan’s involvement has not been confirmed (though he is signed to a 9 movie deal) the Russo Brothers had some words on Bucky’s direction in an interview with Movies.com. The directing duo discussed where the relationship of Cap and Bucky is going in the 2016 film.
Thinking about where that relationship can go is a piece of the puzzle for us for sure. That character is a wonderfully, beautifully tragic figure in the sense of is he the world’s most feared assassin or is he the world’s longest serving POW. Is he innocent by reason of insanity or the equivalent of it because he’s been mind controlled or is he irredeemable? Is he ever going to be acceptable to Cap again as the friend that he used to be before he was the Winter Soldier? These are very philosophical, emotional questions that pique our interest and definitely form one layer of the next movie.
The direction of Bucky is no doubt important for upcoming film. However, while this details is unclear, could this direction of The Winter Soldier be leading to him taking up the role of Captain America? It should come to no surprise to anyone that Steve Rogers may not be Captain America forever. There have been numerous reports stating that actor Chris Evans may be looking into other projects; while many have speculated that Steve Rogers could be meeting in demise down the road. So with this in mind, and the fact that Sebastian Stan is signed for a nine film deal, it is highly possible that Bucky may be dawning the shield in future films. This move could make sense for the character as it could play as a redemption story for Bucky as he honors his friend. Though, this is just speculation. There is no guarantee that Bucky Barnes could become the next Captain America. Howver what we can expect to see is the Winter Soldier again in Captain America 3.
What do you think? Do you want to see Bucky again in next Captain America film? Could he become Captain America? Express your thoughts in the comments below. Captain America 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
