The U.S. men’s national team has advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and surprised many considering America’s talent in soccer in comparison to the the rest of the world. While the men of Team USA certainly realized that they had the talent to compete with many of the world’s top team’s in the World Cup, few people expected them to get out of the group stage that was labeled “The Group of Death”. Even the head coach of the United States national team, Jürgen Klinsmann, expressed some concern about how far the team could go in the World Cup.
Although American athletes have thrown their support for Team USA in the World Cup, the support of the American fans for Team USA has been palpable. There may be extra motivation for the early success for Team USA in this World Cup. Before the United States Men’s National Team departed for Brazil and played their first World Cup match, fans across the country and former U.S. men’s soccer great Brian McBride, Allstate Insurance, sponsor of the USMNT, surprised the U.S. team with a send-off video that was unveiled at EverBank Field.
Their reaction to the send-off is being brought to life in the following video, which displays the passion and excitement that American fans had for the potential of the U.S. men’s national team. The video, comprised of well-wishes from fans via social media and in-person as well as game footage, inspired fans and the team. USA chants could be heard all around the stadium as the team watched and cheered. Despite having to compete against some of the best teams in the world and travel more in-country during the group stage than any other team, the USMNT have unwavering support from their fans, which has helped them advance to the Group of 16 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
