This November marks the 10-year anniversary of World of Warcraft. In true Blizzard fashion, there are big plans in store for players who login during the month of November. Most notably – the inclusion of corgi battle pets.
Shortly before I announced my departure from the world of video game reviewing to join the indie design and development side of the industry with my indie game company, Corgis on Fire, Blizzard stole a little bit of my spotlight when it was revealed that Molten Corgi battle pets would be added to World of Warcraft.
Until now, most of the World of Warcraft community speculated that the Molten Corgi pets would be added to the pet store, requiring real money to acquire. However, today Blizzard has confirmed that Molten Corgis are going to be added to World of Warcraft during the upcoming 10-year anniversary shindig for free, as long as you manage to login during the month of November.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s no topping flaming bundles of adorableness. However, that’s just the beginning of what Blizzard has in store for this monumental event.
Raiders, get ready to return to the raid that started it all! Molten Core is being upgraded to a level 90 Raid Finder version of the instance. Most World of Warcraft players first discovered the rewards and hardships of raiding with Molten Core, so it’s going to be an absolute pleasure to venture back into the depths of Molten Core to down the original Ragnaros once more. But what’s raiding without reward? Nothing, that’s what – so Blizzard is not only leveling up the content of Molten Core, but they are also giving everyone who defeats the Firelord an achievement and special Core Hound mount as a reward.
So far we have corgi-parade potential, level 90 Molten Core, an achievement, and a Core Hound mount heading our way. What else could Blizzard possibly have in store?
This is where Tarren Mill vs. Southshore: The Rematch enters the fray. The struggle between Tarren Mill and Southshore is to PVPers as Molten Core is to raiders. For the month of November only, the entire area is turning into an all-out PVP Team-Deathmatch style Battleground called Tarren Mill vs. Southshore.
According to @hotlinka on Twitter, World of Warcraft’s PVP designer, this battleground is being considered as an annual occurrence, but it will never become available outside of anniversary months.
We feel that’s a good experience…for a little while. If left permanent, it would actually become a negative experience. – @hotlinka
By the look of things, World of Warcraft’s 10-year anniversary is quickly shaping up to be the biggest in-game bash Azeroth has ever seen. Mainly because of the corgis.
