Gameplay footage of the brand new WWE 2K15 was leaked on Saturday night. The footage featured former and currently retired WWE superstar CM Punk, and current WWE superstar Randy Orton.
Already there are major complaints regarding CM Punk in the game. The first of which is that during Punk’s entrance, he’s only wearing a plain gray hoodie. No logos, no lettering, nothing. Just plain and gray.
It’s been reported that WWE is trying to censor all of CM Punk’s merchandise due to him not being with the company.
This past September WWE received a 22-page legal document from CM Punk’s legal team, letting WWE know that Punk was entitled to his royalties for WWE 2K15 and his merchandise that was still being sold on wweshop.com.
In response to the 22-page legal document, WWE had a fire-sale on all CM Punk items available on wweshop.com and is no longer selling any CM Punk related merchandise in their online store.
Punk, who left WWE back in January, has completely stayed away from anything wrestling related since his departure.
Leading up to WWE 2K15’s release there was a lot of discussion on whether or not Punk would be featured in the game. Well, he’s not only featured, but Punk is one of the focal points of the game, as his rivalry with WWE 2K15 cover-boy John Cena is one of the featured rivalries that fans can play through in the game.
It’s no secret that Punk isn’t on good terms with WWE since he did depart from the company in an untimely manner with no warning at all, 6 months before his contract expired.
Since Punk has left it seems that WWE has been trying to wipe CM Punk from WWE history, and help the fans forget he ever existed.
WWE fans have not forgotten about Punk as they’ll always chant Punk’s name whenever his wife, and WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee appears on WWE television.
WWE’s feud with CM Punk couldn’t be happening at a worse time, as they’re in desperate need of main-event caliber stars with top stars like Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan being out with injuries.
According to CM Punk’s long-time friend Paul Heyman, Punk will not be back in WWE any time soon, regardless of what WWE would offer him.
“I think Punk’s mindset right now is to never come back [to WWE].I think in his heart of hearts, CM Punk absolutely has it in his mindset, in his heart and his soul, and passionately feels, ‘I will never put on a pair of boots again.'”
Heyman also continued to say that if Punk would view a return to WWE as a failure on his part.
“CM Punk is driven and determined never to go back, and in his mind, if he ever does go back, it will be a sign of a failure on his part, that his success in life is predicated on the move to never come back.”
As any long-time wrestling fan knows, you never say never. Nearly every single wrestler who has left WWE and seemingly burned a bridge that couldn’t be repaired has come back. Names like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Bret Hart, Brock Lesnar and Ultimate Warrior have all come back after walking out and, at the time, destroying their relationship with WWE.
While CM Punk is certainly different from any other WWE superstar past or present, it’s unlikely that his involvement in WWE 2K15 will be the last thing he does involving WWE or pro wrestling.
WWE 2K15 will be released on October 28 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will be released for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 18.
