Viral video licensing company Jukin Media connected creators as a City Supporting Sponsor of Social Media Week Los Angeles at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, last week. From the opening night party to panels and more, this video licensing company was supporting their mission to “bring video creators and entertainment platforms closer together.”
If a video starts to go viral, Jukin Media’s research team may contact you to license the content, and then get it seen on major networks and shows such as the NBC’s TODAY Show, ESPN, truTV, and Rob Dyrdek’s MTV Ridiculousness. The company is rapidly expanding their services, but licensing is their core magic.
When we interviewed Jonathan Skogmo, Founder and CEO of Jukin Media about why his company chose this event to support, he explained, “Social Media Week is a special event. It’s a tremendous opportunity for leaders and experts in digital media to connect with the broader digital community here in LA. There’s so much to learn.”
During the Opening Night Party held at a “secret location” in Venice, California, Jonathan was honored in the Social 25 with Sophia Bush, Grace Helbig (YouTube celebrity and comedian), Weird Al Yankovic, Tony Horton (Beachbody Fitness), Dr. Dre (Beats Music), Jason Nazar (Docstoc), Marianne Williamson (Author) and more as “outstanding individuals, companies, and brands influencing the future of social media.”
From this rooftop party, we also ran into Drew P Baldwin (Tubefilter Founder and SMWLA Chair), Bernie Su (Lizzie Bennett Diaries), Amber J Lawson (Comedy Gives Back), David Bloom (Deadline), Mike Skogmo (Jukin Media), Shira Lazar (What’s Trending), Bryan M Moore (ET), Brad Nye (WeVu) and more social media influencers and trendsetters.
What was even more exciting than all the parties was to see Jukin Media’s explosive growth in the past three years. From their tiny office with ten employees in Hollywood in 2011, the company now has a team of 70+ in Culver City, where many of the Silicon Beach tech startups have moved. And their viral video library is growing! JukinMedia just had 750 million video views in August, and were listed as #8 on comScore.
On Thursday, Jukin Media hosted a SMWLA panel to discuss copyright and “fair use” of User-Generated-Content in social media, with experts from prominent law firms and digital media companies. This hot topic panel included Brian Potter (YouTube Nation), Joe Mosschella (Jukin Media), James Creech (Bent Pixels) and Benny Luo (NextShark).
Jonathan Skogmo also conducted a Master Class entitled “Going Viral — A roadmap for social sharability”, where he offered insights into Jukin Media‘s methodology for discovering and amplifying viral videos.
Along with all this jukin, we were fortunate to attend the Viacom Slackitivism Panel, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Panel, Vine Workshop led by Bryan M Moore and Collab Creators, and the closing party. Our favorite VIP by far on all of these panels was Dinky.
There were also Skype booths with Nokia Lumia phones and chargers (a must for any conference!), a Selfie Truck, and Social Augmented Reality (presented by Instabrand and VRTX).
Big thanks to Jukin Media and everyone who helped put together this digital idea exchange week. We met people who came all the way from Japan at the Collab Photo Booth, the founder of Couponler, plus a guy with an app that helps you make decisions. Wouldn’t that be great to have an app that tells you how to make the right decisions?
