Zinc Lounge @ Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach has a new daily brunch menu.
Yes, a DAILY brunch menu – which means you can now enjoy the most sumptuous meal of the week, every day of the week.
Imagine….having the daily option to savor those specialty dishes usually reserved for lazy Sundays. You know, the ones that make weekday breakfasts pale in comparison.
I recently attended a media preview for the new brunch menu – and, no surprises here – it didn’t disappoint.
Executive Chef Chris Garasic revises the menus regularly – adding new items and enhancing classic dishes with refreshing twists – while keeping the most popular entrées intact. Over the years, the exceptional quality of the offerings, and the service, has been remarkably consistent.
The brunch menu is sizable and offers a wide range of options to satisfy any craving – there is, literally, something for everyone.
Our group of local bloggers and LA media sampled several of the menu items including a version of Eggs Benedict called Eggs Manhattan (they’ve replaced the English muffin with a crab cake), a Truffle Kobe burger with Sweet Potato Fries (delish), the Farm to Table Omelet (fresh, fresh) and more.
The Marinated Heirloom Tomato Stack featured meaty slices of tomatoes, creamy burrata cheese, arugula and grilled polenta cake topped with an aged balsamic reduction drizzle and basil pesto and Kalamata olive puree on the side. Bursting with flavor, the generous portion was light and refreshing.
The Summer Peach Stuffed French Toast featured brioche slices dipped in Cointreau custard layered with orange flavored cream and sautéed peaches. Topped with pecans and citrus whipped cream, it was divine…..and surprisingly, not overly sweet. The dish was served with a side of candied, apple wood-smoked bacon. Candied bacon – even the vegetarian attendee couldn’t resist. ‘nough said.
Perusing the menu, the dish that caught my eye was the Skillet Truffle Parmesan Biscuits & Gravy. I adore biscuits and gravy and order it whenever I see it on a menu – which isn’t often in Los Angeles. Served in a cast iron skillet, three fluffy biscuits were surrounded by wild mushroom- smoked bacon-gravy and topped with a soft poached egg. The Zinc version of this classic dish is comfort food at its finest – savory, satisfying, decadent and oh, so good for the soul.
They’ve incorporated some of the most popular breakfast and lunch items into the brunch menu as well: the Zinc Chopped, Signature Calamari, Cabo Fish Tacos, Shade Burger, Tuscan Grilled Cheese and Zinc Sandwich.
Dishes this well-crafted demand an equally discerning selection of beverages – I mean, really, what is brunch without a Bloody Mary?
While the Eye Opener Bloody Mary is perfection, you may be tempted to forego tradition for a refreshing Guava Mojito-Tini or Raspberry Lemonade Vodka.
They offer the classic orange juice Mimosa as well as Ginger, Rose or Lavender flavored varieties and each one is more refreshing than the next. The Espresso Cocktail is made with coffee liquor, vanilla vodka and Irish cream.
Brunch is so much more than a meal – it’s a repast which requires one to sit back, relax and savor the experience as much as the food. Al fresco dining on the Zinc terrace with like-minded companions is certainly a pleasant way to spend an hour…. or two or three.
The new brunch menu is available seven days a week from7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prices range from $4 to $29.
